Winter storms can result in extreme cold, downed power lines and blocked roads and highways.

A winter storm watch is issued when significant winter weather is possible, but not imminent.
A winter weather advisory means that winter weather is imminent and may cause inconveniences, but may not rise to the level of meeting warning criteria.
A winter storm warning is issued when a significant weather storm is imminent and may be a dangerous threat to life or property.
Prep your home for cold weather now
Have your heating unit serviced now if you did not in the fall.
Caulk and weather-strip drafty doors or windows.
Insulate exposed pipes and cover outdoor faucets.
Put together your emergency kit for storms and power outages
Include at least a three-day supply of food and water.
Include flashlights, warm clothing and extra batteries.
Consider battery power banks for charging your phones and other devices.
Don't forget to plan for medical needs. Plan for a backup source of power to evacuate household members who rely on electric medical equipment.
