UPDATE: The Tennessee Valley Authority ended its appeal to consumers to reduce energy demand at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
The Tennessee Valley Authority has issued an appeal to consumers across seven states, including those served by NGEMC, to reduce energy demand until further notice, particularly during the anticipated peak demand period between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Members can help lower demand by taking a few simple steps during peak hours:
• Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature.
• Delay use of major appliances, such as ovens and clothes dryers, during peak demand hours.
• Turn off and unplug unused lights and electronics.
• Learn more about demand peaks at www.ngemc.com/beatthepeak.
The demand and strain on the electric grid will be determined by consumers across the seven states served by TVA, an area much larger than that served by NGEMC. However, the actions of individuals can help shape the demand curve and reduce the risk of TVA emergency load curtailment orders.
Together, our small steps have a big impact.
