High temperatures continue this week. Demand for our area peaks between 3-7 p.m. as families return home and temperatures are near their daily highs. Here are some ways to beat the heat and conserve energy:
-
Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and check on family members, seniors and neighbors.
-
Set the thermostat to the highest comfortable temperature.
-
Use fans to stay cool.
-
Close blinds, shades, or drapes during the day to block sunlight.
-
Close rooms that aren't used regularly during the summer.
-
Avoid unnecessary power use by turning off non-essential lights, appliances and electronics.
-
When possible, avoid using large appliances or electronics during the hottest hours of the day.
-
Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
-
Learn to recognize the signs of heat illness.
-
Bring pets indoors when possible and ensure animals have constant access to water.
